    NOTICE OF SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION

    NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN to qualified electors of the School District of Black Hawk of the Villages of Gratiot and South Wayne, Towns of Gratiot, Monticello, Wayne, Wiota and Darlington, Lafayette County and the Towns of Cadiz and Jordan, Green County, Wisconsin, that on April 4, 2023 between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. the election of the school board members will be held.  The following offices are to be elected to succeed the present incumbents listed.  The term of office for each school board member is 3 years and begins on April 24, 2023.

    ALSO, NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that any qualified elector desiring to be a candidate for the office shall, no later than 5:00 p.m. on January 3, 2023 file a Declaration of Candidacy and a Campaign Registration Statement with the School District Clerk or District Office.  Forms may be picked up at the District Office in South Wayne during normal working hours.
     

    NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN, that if a primary is necessary, the primary will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

General Contractor Process (click)

General Contractor Process

As of November 7, 2022, I had access to the 99% progress drawings for the building project for the district. The week of November 21st HSR will send the plans out to receive bids from general contractors. We are tentatively looking to receive the bids by December 20, 2022. As part of the bid process, there will be a pre-bid walkthrough around December 6, 2022.

Shortly after receiving the bids the Board will review the bids and decide on how to proceed. If everything goes well the Board will choose a general contractor and the process will proceed. The hope is for the project to begin work in late March or early April. Of course, the weather will play a role in when the construction actually starts.

Once the project begins it is planned to proceed in the following manner. Phase 1, which will include the construction of the classroom wing from the ag building to the east edge of the current main doors and the office addition are planned to be completed in December of 2023. In January and February of 2024 the 1921 section, the 1938 section and the office portion of the building will be torn down. Then in March/April of 2024, the remainder of the classroom wing will be constructed with the intent of being completed by December of 2024.

Some other key transitions will occur during the nearly two-year process. In the summer of 2023, the current library will be converted into three rooms which will eventually be the MS special needs room, the HS Special needs room, and a staff workroom. The upper commons will be converted into 3 temporary rooms for use while phase II of the project is being completed. A temporary wall will be built between the stage and the gym to temporarily house the library. Eventually, the upper commons will be converted into the new library with two collaboration rooms included in the space.

Looking forward to the next two years it currently seems like it will be an eternity. I am sure once it gets started the time will go by quickly and the project will be completed before we know it. I am very confident that during construction there will be many difficult situations to deal with, but I am just as confident that all involved will make it work.

In the end, the community will have a very nice and accessible facility for the students to learn and the community to attend events.
